There are several claims ongoing regarding the Indian captain Shubman Gill's workload after being with the team nonstop since the Anderson Tendulkar Series. In the first Test at Eden Gardens against South Africa, he was retired hurt after playing just four balls, after suffering neck stiffness. In such a scenario, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that Gill currently has the authority to opt out if he wants. The 35-year-old pacer has recently launched his own app, CricGiri. While speaking there, he felt that Gill should decide his own availability and not depend on someone for the decision-making role. Bhuvi said, “Gill has become captain recently. If he so desires, he would speak out for himself. He is part of the think tank, part of the decision-making. If he really needs rest, he will say that he needs rest. Mentally and physically, he is in a position to say that.” Read also: IND vs SA 2nd Test: Shubman Gill Doubtful, Nitish Reddy Added to India Squad in Kolkata Bhuvneshwar Kumar turns down pitch controversies Coincidentally, Bhuvi belongs to that Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri era, where the pitch did not get the utmost importance. Ravi Shastri has his famous dialogue, "pich ko nikalo game se" (throw the pitch out of the game), and Bhuvi just resonated the same view. With India losing the first Test by 30 runs, there were a lot of questions raised on the turning pitch. However, Bhuvi supported the notion behind the pitch-playing four spinners. He even said how the pitch was never questioned because India used to win before, He said. “This is not the first time a spin-friendly track has been prepared. No one raised this question before because India was winning. Winning and losing is part of the game. It’s not that the team has not lost before or it has lost for the first time. I don’t think it’s a big worry.” He added, "The way the wicket was prepared, we all know the requirement was for four spinners,” he said. “We had good options and it was a turning track. The way the match went, it was a good decision.” Well, India did play four spinners, including three spin-all rounders- Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel. Despite that, India relied mostly on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, with them bowling 24 and 14 overs, respectively. Notably, Siraj was given just two overs in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja bowled the most overs in the second innings, bowling 20, while getting just 8 in the second. Axar got a total of 20 overs, bowling 6 in the first and 14 in the second. well, the team's only off-spinner, Washington Sundar, got to spin his wrist for one over in the first innings and wasn't called at all for the second. Meanwhile, on the other side, Simron Harmer, the SA offspinner took eight wickets in two innings after bowling almost 30 overs.
