Sunil Gavaskar said the IPL 2026 final should have been shifted to the reserve day after Gujarat Titans faced travel disruption before the title clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad. Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said the weather-related delay from Mullanpur to Ahmedabad affected Gujarat's preparation and recovery period ahead of the match. Gujarat eventually reached Ahmedabad late on Saturday night after their scheduled travel plans were disrupted. The former India captain argued that the presence of a reserve day gave the BCCI an opportunity to reschedule the final and create equal conditions for both teams. The team landed at approximately 10:45 pm and reached its hotel around midnight. RCB, meanwhile, had already been stationed in Ahmedabad since defeating Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on May 26. Gujarat also entered the final after playing Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and completing a chase before travelling. Gavaskar said the delay added physical and mental strain on the squad before the summit clash. He said, "Yes, definitely. Make no mistake, players require rest. You didn't know when your flight was taking off, so there was anxiousness. Which means you are mentally also off apart from the physical toll. "So, I thought with a reserve day in place, considering what happened was completely unexpected, I thought they could have pushed the final to tomorrow, just to be a little fair to the Gujarat Titans team." Final Match Situation in Ahmedabad Despite the travel setback, Gujarat entered the contest with confidence after defeating RCB by four wickets in Ahmedabad earlier this season while defending champions Bengaluru retained an unchanged XI. Gujarat replaced Sai Kishore with Arshad Khan. In the ongoing final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, RCB won the toss and elected to bowl. Gujarat were 59 for 3 after nine overs with Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar batting. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan departed early, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam and Josh Hazlewood claimed one wicket each. Krunal Pandya also maintained pressure through a tight opening spell.
