Former cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has called Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood's comment on batters "realistic," after India's mammoth win at Perth by 295 runs. India posted a huge target of 550 runs, to which Hazlewood said, "You probably have to ask one of the batters that question. I'm sort of relaxing and trying to get a bit of physio and a bit of treatment, and I'm probably looking mostly towards the next Test and what plans we can do against these (Indian) batters." This had sparked possibilities of internal rifts in the Australian dressing room. Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist doubted to have some "cracks," and Ravi Shastri too echoed the same feeling. He said that, such expressions from the Australian side may fuel India's confidence more. Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar noted that Hazlewood was pragmatic. Gavaskar said, "I think he was just being realistic. You're asked to chase almost 550 runs. You've lost three wickets, including two top players. So you're naturally going to know that this 500 mark is not going to be possible. So I think he was just being realistic about it. But maybe, you know, fast bowlers are generally not very diplomatic, so he probably wasn't very diplomatic when he said that." He added that Hazlewood might lack diplomacy but was honest by not faking confidence of chasing 550 by a blink. Cummins rubbishes claims The Australian captain Pat Cummins too dismissed rumors about team tensions during his post-match press conference at Optus Stadium. He emphasized the strong camaraderie within the Australian squad, highlighting that both batters and bowlers have supported each other in difficult situations. Cummins described the team as one of the tightest he has ever played with, mentioning the strong bond shared by the core group after facing challenges in recent years. He assured that there are no issues within the team. The second Test, a day-night match, will take place at the Adelaide Oval on December 6.
