Gautam Gambhir, the coach of Team India was seen with his wife Natasha Jain at Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple on Thursday, May 15. The 43-year-old recently hit the headlines when India were victorious in the 2025 Champions Trophy. India was undefeated in the entire tournament and clinched the title by a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final, played in Dubai on March 9. It was also India’s maiden ICC title under Gambhir. Prior to the five-match Test series against England, the 37-year-old Gambhir and his wife, the duo had visited the Siddhivinayak Temple to take blessings on May 15 in Mumbai. The second Test starts on July 2 at Edgbaston with Lord’s hosting the third on July 10. The final two Tests at Emirates Old Trafford and Kennington Oval commencing July 23 and July 31, respectively. Before the series, former India captain-turned mentor Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli declared their retirement from Test cricket. Rohit announced his decision on May 7 having played 67 tests in which he scored 4,301 runs, registering 12 tons and 18 half centuries. The 36-year-old appeared in 123 Test matches scoring 9230 runs including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He retired from red-ball cricket as India’s fourth-highest run-getter, behind only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,265) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122). With legends of Indian cricket retiring, attention would now be on who the BCCI appoints next as the Test captain Shubman Gill could be an interesting option though.
