The newly appointed Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, is under havoc speculation after the 0-3 defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand. Given the privileges like choosing the coaches and attending selection meetings, this is somewhat uncanny of what has been traditionally provided to the head coaches so far. special mention goes to the the legendary Rahul Dravid, whom Basit Ali, the former Pakistani cricketer, mentioned while explaining strategies of Gautam Gambhir. Basit Ali did a comparison of the present head coach with his predecessor. Gambhir's theory of producing a turning pitch from day 1 contradicts Dravid's thought, where he would let the ball turn on the last two days. On his YouTube channel, Basit Ali explained, "Rahul Dravid's mind is better than Gautam Gambhir. Dravid made pitches for four days, where the ball would turn on the last couple of days. You are now making such pitches where even someone who isn't a regular spinner is getting a lot of turn right from the first day." Dravid read minds: Ali Ali praised Dravid's psychology and his ability to read the players' thoughts. However, Gambhir deployed a much more attacking style, probably been not accostomed with the inds, thinks Basit. If you tell Virat Kohli to play T10 and T20 in Test cricket, then it's unfair." Dravid has coached most of them in junior-level cricket, while few have been his late cricketing career's teammates. Thus, knowing the players shouldn't be a big deal for him. On the other side, Gautam Gambhir, who has been the successful "mentor" for the Kolkata Knight Riders, with head coach Chandrakant Pandit by his side in the 2024 season, may take some time to settle down in the international circuit.
