The Indian management, including the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel, has reached out to the Kent pitch curators to provide them a decent practice pitch. Notably, the senior team led by the young Shubman Gill will be playing against the India "A" team next week before walking into the five-match test series against England. Meanwhile, the India A team has just concluded their two-match unofficial Test series against the England Lions. In both the matches, India A has secured a draw. As per reports from RevSports, the coaching staff from India urged the curators to provide a pitch that closely matches the one provided during the series. As per RevSports, a local pitch curator informed that India did not want an entirely batting pitch or a pitch with green covering. The curator said, “Yes, the coaching staff, including Gautam Gambhir and others, spoke to us after their internal meeting. Their message was clear: ‘We want a good pitch.’ Not something too flat or too green, but something that will genuinely help with match preparation. They wanted more realistic conditions, not just batting drills. So we adjusted a few things, grass cover, net width, and length extensions. The feedback has been great since then." The soil here naturally plays batter-friendly, so visually, the wicket may look dry or flat. But we manage grass density, not just what you see, but how thick it is. The pitches currently used by India and Australia have slightly more grass than our usual white-ball surfaces. It's a subtle balance. Even with a brown surface, there's enough life in it for seamers, if you hit the right length.” The team has been based in Beckenham, South East London, holding practice sessions on specially prepared wickets. Notably, the practice match is also expected to offer clues about India’s new-look top order. With Sai Sudharsan in line for a debut and Karun Nair back in contention, the batting order for the opening Test in Leeds on June 20 may well be shaped by performances next week.
