For more than half a century, Indian cricket has always had a batting icon at its forefront from Sunil Gavaskar in the ’70s and ’80s to Sachin Tendulkar’s two-decade reign. Since 2013, Virat Kohli has carried the torch. But his era may soon have a successor. Having hung up his boots from Test and T20I cricket, Kohli will no longer be the face of Indian cricket for long. Some other face will take over. Will it be Shubman Gill, who has been referred to as 'Prince' as Kohli was referred to as 'King', almost implying that Gill is going to be the next in line? Or Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been one of the top Test batters since his entry in 2023? Monty Panesar recently in his interviews discussed how Sai Sudharsan could be the next Indian superstar and someone who can be the next Virat Kohli. The gifted 23-year-old has played for Surrey in the County Championship over the past 2 years and has performed admirably. His temperament and technique have impressed. Playing well in English conditions is not easy but Sudharsan has done it successfully. And that's why Panesar thinks highly of him. He feels Sudharsan possesses all the talent required to flourish in global cricket, especially Tests. He feels the left-hander can prove to be the next batting sensation, as Virat Kohli was the previous decade, and can even capture his number four spot in Test cricket. Here is what Panesar said: “There are some really good youngsters in the team at the moment. One particular batsman is a Surrey player, Sai Sudharsan. He looks very aggressive and fearless. He’s a player who’s done well in English conditions and for Surrey. I think he could be the next superstar of Indian cricket and take on the role that Virat Kohli did at number four,”
