One of the worst ways to get out in cricket as a batter is being dismissed hit wicket by breaking your own stumps with either your bat or your body. Such instances are very rare but when they happen, it makes a batter look foolish and silly. In the IPL's history of 18 years, prior to 2025 there were 15 instances of a batter getting out hit wicket. This season has seen the joint-most hit wicket dismissals ever in an IPL season with SRH batter Abhinav Manohar starting it off when he was dismissed breaking his own stumps against Mumbai Indians back in match 41. Then, RCB's Krunal Pandya was hit wicket too against SRH in match 65 on May 23 and now GT batter Kusal Mendis has met the same fate as well against the same team in the Eliminator today (May 30).
