Almost everyone has, at some point, dreamed of becoming a cricketer. But achieving that dream is no easy feat, it’s a relentless journey marked by challenges, financial struggles, and much more. This was likely the reality for Tejasvi Jaiswal, the elder brother of India’s young and promising batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal. In fact, Tejasvi Jaiswal is a big reason why Yashasvi now represents India. The two brothers were sent to Mumbai by their father with dreams of pursuing cricket. However, as the older sibling, Tejasvi soon realized that supporting both of their ambitions in such an expensive sport would be difficult. Deciding to step back, he moved to Delhi, dedicating himself to supporting his younger brother’s cricket journey while also taking responsibility for his elder sisters’ marriages. As quoted by the Indian Express, Tejasvi said: "I also wanted to play cricket, but the financial situation of our family was not good. Yashasvi was doing well… So by the end of 2013, I quit Mumbai and cricket and moved to Delhi, where a relative runs a shop. By 2021, my sisters got married and Yashasvi got the IPL contract. Life eased for us after that.” Tejasvi decided to leave cricket partly because he was sidelined following accusations of age fraud. Life was already challenging for the Jaiswal brothers, as they struggled to afford even meals on a day. He further said: “I played one game in the Harris Shield and picked up seven wickets. Then people started saying that I had an age-verification issue. I was benched for a year and a half. Yashasvi was doing extremely well, and I didn’t want his prospects to be affected because of me. Anyway, Mumbai was too expensive for both of us. It was getting difficult for both of us to have two meals a day. At that point, Jwala sir, Yashasvi’s coach, wasn’t in the picture yet.” Tejasvi Jaiswal marked his return to cricket by scoring his first-ever Ranji Trophy half-century, representing Tripura. After a seven-year break from the sport, he found new inspiration from his brother's achievements, reigniting his own dream. Tejasvi is thrilled to be back on the field and is proud to have reached the level of a first-class cricketer and also feels great when he gets referred as the elder brother of Yashasvi Jaiswal. He concluded by saying: “I am so proud of my brother. I am playing cricket again because of my brother. And I am happy when people say ‘woh dekho Yashasvi Jaiswal ka bada bhai ja raha (See, that is Yashasvi’s elder brother).
