Ex-Sri Lanka cricketer Jayananda Warnaweera died at the age of 64. Warnaweera appeared in 10 Tests and six ODIs during an international career which ran from 1986-1994. Warnaweera was even a cricket administrator following his playing days as a full-time professional cricketer. The SLC sent their deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones during this hour of bereavement. The SLC also informed that the Sri Lanka team will don black armbands during their encounter with South Africa at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in the 2025 Women's World Cup. The team also marked a minute's silence before the game on the side of their dugout. Warnaweera was deeply engaged in preparing Sri Lanka's Galle International Stadium in Galle. Warnaweera was proud to see the stadium host its first international match, the a contest between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Also Read: Watch: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Share Wholesome Moment During Batting Exchange Warnaweera, a right-arm off-spinner, took 4/25 in 14 overs as Sri Lanka bowled New Zealand out to win the second Test of the series by nine wickets and the series by a 1-0 margin in December 1992. Warnaweera's most impressive Test match figures were achieved some months later against England when he took a match haul of 8/188 (4/90 and 4/98). Warnaweera had a limited international career since it was terminated on the grounds of legality of his bowling action. Warnaweera registered three four-wicket hauls in the international stage. Warnaweera was much more successful at home, where he took 287 wickets at an average of a mere 19.96 in 68 games with 22 five-wicket hauls and six ten-wicket hauls. Following the end of his playing career, Warnaweera was the curator of the Galle International Stadium. He was also a Member of the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, Secretary of the Southern Provincial Cricket Association and Secretary of the Galle District Cricket Association.
