Fakhar Zaman was recently removed from the central contract line by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Since his snub from the list, many former cricketers have voiced their support for the left-arm batter. One of them is Pakistan’s former cricketer Basit Ali. Basit Ali recently expressed empathy toward veteran opener Fakhar Zaman, saying that Fakhar remains Pakistan's top choice for the T20 opening, despite his recent exclusion from the national squad and central contracts. The board attributed this to fitness concerns and his social media activity. On his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said: "Fakhar Zaman is a player who sacrificed his batting position for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan don't have a better opener than him in T20s. Even a vegetable seller will say that Fakhar is the best opener. He changed his batting position for the sake of the country." Basit highlighted that Fakhar has been unfairly dropped from the team. He noted that many others on social media are posting or tweeting similar things without facing any consequences. He further said: "He broke a law with his tweet. However, a lot of people have tweeted in the past. Fakhar isn't the only one. Why are you not punishing the other players? I always say that everyone should get the same treatment. When nothing happened to the other players, you should have given some margin to Fakhar as well.’’ Fakhar's recent exclusion from Pakistan's central contracts and the upcoming tours to Australia and Zimbabwe has been a tough setback for the batsman, affecting his confidence. Several reports from the closed sources to Fakhar have reported that Fakhar is considering retirement after this incident.
