Former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad will be standing in the coming Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) elections, which will be held between October and November this year. A seasoned coach, selector, and administrator, Prasad previously held the office of KSCA vice-president from 2013 to 2016 under Anil Kumble's presidency. Since then, he avoided cricket administration to pursue his coaching career and work in the media as a cricket expert and commentator. The 56-year-old, then India's bowling coach during the 2006–2007 season, had also been a part of the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) coaching team in the IPL. Both are likely to declare their complete list of candidates in the next few days. The existing KSCA administration, led by Raghuram Bhatt, will serve out its term on September 30. But the organization has faced pressure following the disaster on June 4, when 11 supporters were killed and others injured during a stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL title win. After the tragedy, KSCA secretary Shankar A and treasurer ES Jairam stepped down on moral grounds. The state cabinet gave the go-ahead for criminal action against KSCA executives, RCB management, and event organiser DNA, following the one-man Justice D'Cunha Commission report submitted to the government and the High Court. The KSCA secretary and treasurer positions are currently vacant, and if all goes well, Mruthyunjaya may resume as treasurer. In yet another development, former India skipper and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, under whose playing career Prasad operated with his bowling spells, is also coming back into cricket administration. Ganguly is all set to submit his nomination for the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president in the upcoming election.
