Piyank Panchal, the former skipper for the Gujarat domestic team, who has also led India A on different occasions, has announced retirement from all formats of cricket. On Monday, the Gujarat Cricket Association confirmed the proceedings and congratulated Panchal for his cricket career. The GCA secretary, Anil Patel officially announced, "The Gujarat Cricket Association congratulates Mr. Priyank Panchal on a fantastic career. The batter has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Sunday, May 26, 2025." For 17 years, Panchal has served the state board, mostly as an opening batter. The 35-year-old right-handed batter has represented Gujarat in 97 List A games, bagging 3,672 runs at an average of 40.80. It includes eight centuries and 21 fifties. Not only that, he has played 59 T20 matches, where he amassed 1,522 runs, averaging 28.71, scripting nine half-centuries to his name. Priyan Panchal features in a total of 127 first-class matches, where he scored 8,856 runs, maintaining an average of 45.18. There, he smacked 29 centuries along with 34 fifties. Panchal had an exceptional run during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, firmly establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit. Representing Gujarat, he amassed a staggering total of 1,310 runs over the course of the tournament. His most remarkable performance came in the form of an unbeaten 314, which stood out as his highest individual score and a defining innings of his career. Panchal’s prolific batting played a crucial role in Gujarat clinching the coveted Ranji Trophy title that season — their first-ever in the history of the competition. In addition to his Ranji Trophy success, Panchal has also been an important part of Gujarat’s triumphs in white-ball formats. He was a member of the squad that lifted the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2015–16 season, showcasing his ability to adapt to the 50-over format. Prior to that, he contributed to Gujarat’s title wins in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy — India’s premier domestic T20 competition — in both the 2012–13 and 2013–14 editions.
