Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from Indian cricket after an extensive career in domestic and the IPL circles. He revealed on May 22nd that he will no longer be a part of the IPL or domestic matches in the subcontinent but intends to continue his cricketing ventures overseas. The 35-year-old made the announcement in a heartfelt message that also featured the all-rounder's take on the kind of flak he received throughout his career. Over the course of his 10-year IPL career, Shankar represented four franchises - Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals. In 78 IPL matches, he piled on 1233 runs and scalped 9 wickets. Vijay Shankar Discusses Career Milestones The Tamil Nadu all-rounder also represented India in limited-overs cricket, featuring in 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is with his last appearance for the nation coming at the 2019 World Cup. Shankar wrote: "Cricket is my life. I started playing when I was 10 and 25 years later, I am grateful and blessed to have played at every level and to the highest level. Representing our country will always be one of my proudest and happiest moments." He then recalled some of the pivotal moments from his time representing India. He added: "Bowling the last over at India’s 500th ODI at Nagpur and my First ball First wicket at the 2019 world cup are moments I will hold onto forever!" He added: "I have faced unreal hate and negativity. Let me take this opportunity to let you know that I chose to ignore and move forward. If I can do that- anyone can! Think positive and work hard. Cricket has taught me life. Cricket is my life." The 35-year-old, also signed off as "3D cricketer", a phrase which made the rounds after former selector MSK Prasad, stated while referring to the World Cup team selection controversy, said that Shankar "is 3D cricketer and can be picked over Ambati Rayudu". In spite of all the criticism that has been leveled against him, Vijay Shankar had made numerous wonderful contributions for Tamil Nadu and India.
