Former India pacer Atul Wassan has stirred up a fresh debate by strongly opposing the comparison of KL Rahul with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Speaking on OTTplay's Bails and Banter, Wassan didn't hold back his frustration when asked about such comparisons. He even mentioned how people used to turn off their television when Sachin got out. He questioned if a similar thing happened for KL Rahul. "If you talk about KL Rahul and Sachin Tendulkar in the same sentence, then I will go. TVs are getting shut down because KL Rahul is getting out? Who are these people?" Wassan said in disbelief. While the former cricketer did acknowledge Rahul’s abilities, his irritation stemmed from the inflated expectations and exaggerated parallels drawn between generations. He pointed out how people are comparing players from different generations and how they shouldn't do that. Wassan underlined that KL Rahul is a fine batter in his own right but shouldn't be held to standards set by the likes of Tendulkar. "No bigger batter than Gavaskar": Wassan on Virat Kohli and batting legends Wassan also weighed in on the long-running debates about India's greatest batters. While he praised Virat Kohli for the way he took charge of Indian batting under pressure, Wassan argued that the era Sunil Gavaskar played in was far more intimidating for batters. “Virat also faced quality bowlers like Jimmy Anderson, Kagiso Rabada, Mitchell Johnson, and more. However, in Gavaskar’s era, there used to be actual fear among players. Hence, I would rather say that there is no bigger batsman than Sunil Gavaskar,” he said. That said, Wassan still lauded Kohli’s dominance and adaptability in modern cricket. He noted that Kohli's success was not about chasing records, but about standing firm under the weight of expectations.
