Vidarbha skipper Karun Nair has been in sensational form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has smashed five centuries in the tournament, averaging 664. At 33, he has made a strong statement possibly catching the eye of selectors after his last call-up in 2022. Nair's career has seen quite a few ups and downs. While he had the distinction of being only the second Indian batter to score a triple century in Test cricket, his stay in the national team lasted for just six matches. This year, the 2022 setback was when he was dropped from the Karnataka team, which, according to him, was one of the darkest moments in his career. In a video posted by BCCI Domestic, Nair said: “Quite honestly I’m very fortunate to be able to be batting the way I am just now, I think I believe I’ve been someone who can play all around the wicket and play in all kinds of conditions so it’s been years of hard work and practice. The way my mindset has changed is to finish the game off for the team and whenever I’m set make sure that I go all the way and make the most of that innings.” Also Read | Kevin Pietersen Shows Interest in India’s Batting Coach Role Watch the video here: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐚-𝐑𝐔𝐍 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 ⚙️⚙️Tough times 🤝 family support 🤝 hard work 🤝 successVidarbha captain Karun Nair tells a tale - 👍 👍 By @jigsactin#VijayHazareTrophy | @IDFCFIRSTBank | @karun126 pic.twitter.com/zmDqWzb69Y — BCCI Domestic (@BCCIdomestic) January 16, 2025 Nair added: “The toughest time for me was the end of 2022 when I lost my place in the Karnataka side. Mentally and emotionally, it was very challenging. It took me a few months to think about it and think what I should do going forward, so those few months really taught me an invaluable lesson to respect each day as a new one and respect each innings as a new innings to make sure I give it my all and make sure I score as many runs as I can every single innings." Despite these challenges, Nair has worked hard on his game and produced some good comebacks. So far, in domestic cricket, he has done a great job. Now he is looking forward to leading Vidarbha into the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, helping the team for the first title.
