Over 8300 runs, eight centuries, 17 seasons and countless records later, Virat Kohli is still chasing his first IPL trophy. Since the tournament’s inaugural season in 2008, Kohli has been a central figure in the IPL, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru for years and consistently dominating the run charts. Yet, despite reaching three finals, he has never managed to lift the title. At 36, with probably only a few seasons in his IPL career, Kohli remains one of the standout performers. Despite retiring from T20Is, Kohli has managed to dominate IPL 2025. He has scored 392 runs from nine matches, sitting among the top run-getters, with only Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans ahead of him. The GT opener has piled up 417 runs from eight games. Reflecting on Kohli’s long journey without a title, former India fast bowler and IPL 2009 champion with Deccan Chargers, RP Singh, pointed out that while Kohli continues to bat brilliantly, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have often lacked the crucial final momentum needed to clinch the title. Virat Kohli will come to know about the hard work needed to win an IPL trophy when he lifts the trophy for the first time. He has been batting well, but the final push is lacking,” RP Singh said. While Kohli continues to top the runs chart for RCB, the three-time finalist has had a decent mega auction this time. The team made some bold calls, including appointing Rajat Patidar as captain after his consistent performances. Devdutt Padikkal has found form with the bat, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned to RCB after starting his IPL career there years ago, has added depth to their bowling attack. “They made a good team in the mega auction. Devdutt Padikkal is doing well. Rajat Patidar was rewarded for his good performance and appointed as captain. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was with RCB for two seasons at the start of his career and has now returned to the same team. He is bowling well,” RP Singh added. RCB is currently in third place in the points table with six wins from nine IPL matches. They have won all their away games so far. All their losses in the tournament have come in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the team finally found a way to put an end to the losing streak at home by defeating the Rajasthan Royals in their last game.
