India suffered another batting collapse on the second day of the Pune Test against New Zealand. India's inning came to a mere 156 runs, courtesy Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips, for whom Santner scalped seven wickets. Fans were quick on social media platforms to find fault in India's batting strategy and India's "Rohit-Gambhir combo.". India had wanted to start the day building a good partnership between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. But Santner was introduced much too early to trouble the batters. Though he almost got Gill on an LBW shout, he survived for some time. And at the end, those two added 49 runs together before Santner sent back Gill for 30 that marked India's troubles. Fans would have expected more from Virat Kohli, but he could only score a single before being bowled by Santner. Then it was the turn of Glenn Phillips, who took the wicket of Jaiswal on his first ball. Jaiswal was caught at slip on 30 runs. The pressure still was mounting as it continued ahead, with Phillips and Santner striking. Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant tried their best to stabilize the innings but could only resist for such a small time. Pant was bowled by Phillips for 18, and Sarfaraz fell to Santner for 11 after an absolutely very poor shot. At this juncture, India had lost five wickets for just 83 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin came to the rescue, but Ashwin soon fell to Santner as well, leaving India in a tight corner at 107/7. Later, Jadeja also lost his wicket after scoring 38 runs. Sundar remained unbeaten with 18 runs and the Indian side got bundled out for just 156 runs Social media saw cricket fans show frustration at the decisions and strategies of the team. In sarcastic remarks, many would mention the "Rohit-Gambhir combo", sorely disappointed since India are not so good batsmen against spinners especially when playing in their home turf.
