The Indian team's decision to bat first on the Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru has not gone well with the fans. The Day was completely washed out due to rain, and India won the toss on Day 2 and decided to bat first. However, that decision proved to be pretty bad for them very soon. Openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal faced a tight, anxious, and difficult time with the swinging ball, which the New Zealand bowlers profited from in cloudy conditions. Rohit got bowled by New Zealand's Tim Southee, becoming the first to go. Virat Kohli could not perform when he stepped into the No. 3 slot either. He got a duck after just nine balls as Will O'Rourke produced a good delivery. Sarfaraz Khan, who replaced Shubman Gill in the order, was also dismissed for a duck. Devon Conway grabbed a flying one-handed catch to get rid of the Indian batter. At 13 for 3 after 12.4 overs, India was in a tight spot when rain brought play to a halt and gave them respite from the New Zealand bowlers. The fall of wickets continued after the game resumed, and by the end of the first session, India was struggling at 34 for 6. Fans aired their grievances over several decisions made by the management with the toss itself being the start. Many were left stunned when it was decided to bat first given that the pitch was covered for two days. Further shock came in when KL Rahul did not come out at No. 3, given that he is aware of the Chinnaswamy Stadium and it being his own home ground. Fans were left perplexed as Rahul batted behind Sarfaraz who had not utilized the chance well at No. 4. Especially after the 1st day of the play missed due to the rain.Kohli at 3, sarfaraz instead of Rahul. Why so many confusions here.#INDvNZ — Mohan (@mohan_thoughts) October 17, 2024 Really dont understand why Rohit opted to bat first. Proper conditions to bowl and get the opposition out cheaply#INDvNZ — Vishesh Roy (@vroy38) October 17, 2024 Poor decision making. Is the weather helping the batting first decision ? Then Kohli at no.3 doesn't make sense. It's poor arrogance. The captain himself struggling with the bat. So is Kohli. No Gill. Why at all decided to bat first in overcast conditions. Unbelievable. — Manoj Kumar Satapathy (@ManojKu68713866) October 17, 2024 #INDvNZ I am very surprised India decided to bat first on very tough wicket it is completely captaincy blunder .Vith legends and young talented # Virat Kohli & #Sarfraj khan out for 0Common man failed to understand why we have taken only two Seamers in this wicket pic.twitter.com/7GCh33AqjE — Ashok kumar solan (@aksolan19) October 17, 2024 @BCCI @GautamGambhir @ImRo45 @cricbuzz what do you think about the batting line up or order. Why @imVkohli at 3,@klrahul at 6. You should give sarfaraz at 3 and VK at 4. KL at 5 ,@RishabhPant17 at 6.
