In the latest development, Pakistan recently announced the contract list for players for 2024-25, and shockingly, they left out Fakhar Zaman. He was not selected for the upcoming white-ball tour to Australia and Zimbabwe. According to recent reports, Fakhar Zaman is likely to retire from international cricket following his exclusion from the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) list of centrally contracted players. He is reportedly disheartened by what he perceives as the PCB's inconsistent approach toward him. Additionally, Fakhar is said to be dissatisfied with the selection criteria, expressing frustration over recent fitness assessments and feeling that the board may be applying double standards. According to reports, Fakhar Zaman was asked by the PCB to undergo a fitness test scheduled for January 2025, where the main focus was completing a 2-kilometer run in under eight minutes. Due to a knee injury, Fakhar couldn’t meet the time requirement, potentially impacting his chances of securing a spot on the team, which ultimately led to his exclusion. According to the same reports, another Pakistani player Usman Khan who took a pause during his third lap of the fitness test. Despite this, he was still granted a contract and selected for the squads for both the Australia and Zimbabwe series. Fakhar’s exclusion from the national team reportedly stems also from his support for Babar Azam, who was left out of the squad in Pakistan’s second and third Test matches against England. Without Babar, Pakistan went on to secure a historic victory. Now at 34, Fakhar is still not sure about retirement, though his close friends have encouraged him not to make any hasty, emotion-driven decisions.
