Pakistan's star left-hander Fakhar Zaman got injured while fielding in the opening match of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand at the National Stadium, Karachi. The incident happened on the second ball of the match when Shaheen Afridi bowled a fuller ball to Will Young, who drove it down to extra cover for three runs. Fakhar, who was at mid-off, ran to try and stop the ball but seemed to have hurt either his knee or side in the process of running. He was spotted in pain near the boundary, cradling both the affected limbs. Medical personnel took care of Fakhar right away, and he was compelled to exit the field. Kamran Ghulam took his place as a substitute fielder. Pakistan will now be waiting eagerly for updates on his health as he is one of the most important players for Pakistan in this tournament. pic.twitter.com/t7w4Y9jyBl — kuchbhi@1234567 (@kuchbhi12341416) February 19, 2025 Also Read | Champions Trophy 2025: Rizwan’s Unexpected Request to Fans Pakistan Seeks Revenge of Tri-Nation series Final Loss Pakistan is hosting an ICC event for the first time since 1996, and they are in no mood to let it go with ease this time. Skipper Muhammad Rizwan is leading the host nation in this eight-team marquee event, and they are facing the Black Caps in the tournament opener at Karachi. Pakistan won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first and post the total on the board. The surface here is expected to get easier to bat on in the second half of the game and dew will also play a role and hence, Rizwan chose to bowl first. Both teams have faced each other in the final of the recently concluded Tri-Nation ODI series where Pakistan suffered a five-wicket defeats at the hands of New Zealand. The Green Shirts would look to avenge of that defeat and head to Dubai to face the arch-rival India with momentum on their side. It will be crucial for Pakistan to have Fakhar Zaman fit and match ready ahead of their upcoming encounter against India.
