Karun Nair's comeback to international cricket hasn't been as he would have liked. The Karnataka batter, who found a place in the Indian Test squad after more than eight years based on his prolific batting in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, failed to mark his presence in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. Nair managed to score only 131 runs in six innings of the initial three Tests, and his lack of form saw him losing his position in the playing XI for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The management opted to recall Tamil Nadu's Sai Sudharsan in his place, and the left-handed batter took advantage of the opportunity by leading India's scoring in the first innings with 61 runs off 151 deliveries. This photo was taken during the third Test of the series, which was held at Lord's between June 10 and 14, and not at Old Trafford, Manchester. In the image, the Lord's balcony is clearly visible behind Karun Nair and KL Rahul. In the Leeds Test opener (June 20–24), he was out for a four-ball duck in the first innings after entering at No. 6. In the second innings, he could score just 20 runs from 54 balls. Nair was promoted to No. 3 in the second and third Tests, but he still could not convert his starts. His scores read 31, 26, 40, and 14. A total of merely 131 runs in three matches made for an end in disappointment for his comeback and gave way to Sudharsan for his heroics in Manchester. With his snub, many assume that Karun's Test career has unofficially ended and the batter will not get any further chances in the Indian Test side.
