A picture of a footballer in the jersey of Indian cricket team with "Shaw" on the back is trending on social media. The player wore the jersey, many people think, in a show of support for Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw. But the reality is just the opposite. Here's the viral post: Prithvi Shaw not in the team, still footballers wearing his jersey 🥶 pic.twitter.com/Wv8d2T2l7k — Harsh 17 (@harsh03443) July 20, 2025 The footballer in the photograph is a Manchester United player Luke Shaw and the jersey was worn as part of an event promoting something, not out of personal admiration for Prithvi Shaw. The Indian cricket team recently encountered the entire Manchester United team at Carrington, the club's training facility, prior to their fourth Test against England in Manchester. As part of the occasion, held at Adidas's (the kit sponsor of both teams) insistence, players from both disciplines exchanged jerseys. Manchester United players such as Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Amad Diallo, and Luke Shaw donned Indian cricket jerseys, whereas Indian players including captain Shubman Gill, coach Gautam Gambhir, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Karun Nair, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar wore Manchester United's iconic red shirts. One image, showing the football player Luke Shaw wearing an Indian jersey with “Shaw” on the back, sparked confusion. Some fans assumed it was a gesture toward Prithvi Shaw, but it was simply Luke Shaw, wearing the jersey as part of the Adidas-driven collaboration. The get-together was also able to capture lighter moments, such as Harry Maguire chuckling with Mohammed Siraj and Gautam Gambhir smiling with United coach Ruben Amorim, who also sported Indian colors. Users took X (formerly Twitter) with memes, picturing Gambhir as a goalkeeper or Cunha as a bowler. This even not only united two of the most popular sports but also reflected Manchester United's attempt to reach out to Indian fans, where the club has huge support.
