Suryakumar Yadav's father, Ashok Kumar Yadav, has recently retired from his job as an electrical engineer, and Surya was seen giving an emotional speech at his father's farewell. Ashok Kumar was a working electrical engineer appointed to the prestigious Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai. On his farewell, his family was invited, and so was his son Suryakumar Yadav. In the speech, Surya reflected on his father's attributes and character, how religiously he served his institution, and how he maintained his relationship with colleges. While Surya joked about post-retirement life—that now his ex-colleagues will have to reach his mother before having a chat with his father—he also narrated how his father has been the guiding ray in Surya's life; how he dropped him off at school and packed his dabba (tiffin box) while dropping him off at the school. Surya said, "He is a Superman-like figure, someone from whom you learn a lot. Definitely, in my life it was always my papa (father) who has supported me so much in my career. Because I had now idea what's ahead. But with time, it got clear." So all these little things... like we play Test cricket from 9 to 5, and then coming back home , and then get ready again to leave for the office the next morning, and then come back at 6 in the evening... not dragging office chaos to home... I have learned these things from him."
