Virat Kohli continues to learn and raise the standards for his teammates, according to Royal Challengers Bengaluru's batting coach, Dinesh Karthik. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between Chennai Super Kings and RCB in Chennai, Karthik praised Kohli's relentless hunger to improve, noting how the star batter constantly looks to expand his repertoire of shots. “You speak to him even today – just now as I came out – he wanted to work on one more shot. At this stage of his career, for him to still want to add something new to his game tells you everything about his hunger,” Karthik said. The former Indian cricketer further explained what sets Kohli apart from others. “He just wants to improve and keep raising the bar. That’s what makes him a special player,” he added. 'He has batted well against spin in the recent past' In the past, Kohli often faced challenges against spin bowling, especially in the IPL. Teams would regularly deploy spinners, particularly leg spinners, when he came to bat. This strategy proved effective on multiple occasions. However, Karthik believes Kohli has shown significant improvement in this area in recent years. "He has batted well in the recent past against spin, especially in white-ball cricket. So, I don't want to go too deep into stats. I am not very aware," Karthik said. The RCB batting coach also highlighted Kohli's strong performances in major tournaments, where he excelled against spin attacks. "If I remember, in the [T20] World Cup finals, he got runs where it mattered. Apart from that, in the Champions Trophy, he had a good tournament, the second-highest run-getter [for India]. And that doesn't come without playing spin," he said. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium, where their record has been far from impressive. Out of nine encounters at the venue, CSK has won eight, with RCB's only victory dating back to the first edition of the tournament. However, both teams are coming into this match with a win and will aim to maintain their winning momentum early in IPL 2025.
