Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was as surprised as anyone after being named the Player of the Match in CSK’s five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on Monday night. CSK registered their second win of the season with Dhoni turning back the clock by smashing an unbeaten 26 off just 11 balls with four fours and a six to help seal the chase. At 43, he also became the oldest player to win a PoM award in IPL history. However, the CSK veteran wasn’t convinced he was the most deserving candidate. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Dhoni said that he was surprised to get the award. “Even I'm wondering why I'm getting the award. Noor[Ahmad] bowled really well,” Dhoni said. 'There is still a lot to improve': Dhoni CSK may still be at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table, but the win against LSG was a much-needed confidence boost for the five-time champions. "It's good to win a game. When you play a tournament like this, you want to win games. Unfortunately the [earlier] matches didn't go our way for whatever reasons,” Dhoni said. He pointed to Chennai’s home conditions and frequent fall of wickets as reasons behind their batting woes. Notably, this IPL 2025 season is the first time that the team has lost three consecutive matches at the Chepauk Stadium. “Maybe we need to play on wickets that are slightly better so that it'll give the batters confidence to play their shots. You don't want to play timid cricket.” The captain also praised Shaik Rasheed’s promising rise. The young batter has been with CSK for a few years now and made his debut against LSG recently. Opening the innings, Rasheed smashed a 19-ball 27, setting the platform for the chase. “He has been with us for quite a few years... He has the capability to dominate with authentic shots.” Chennai Super Kings will return to action on April 20 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
