England batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to focus on his international career. This decision might lead to a two-year ban from the tournament if the franchise decides to take action under IPL rules. Brook, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore in the mega auction, made the tough call to withdraw, citing the need to recharge ahead of an important phase for England cricket. Brook’s withdrawal marks the second consecutive year he has opted out of the IPL. In 2024, he skipped the tournament due to personal reasons. However, this time, his decision comes with possible consequences. The IPL rule states that any player who pulls out after being picked in the auction can be banned from the next two seasons. While it remains to be seen if the rule will be enforced, Brook’s sudden exit has put the Delhi Capitals in a difficult position just weeks before the tournament begins. Brook expressed regret for his decision and apologized to the franchise and its fans. In the statement released, Brook said, “It was a very tough call, but I have to put my international commitments first. I hope the Delhi Capitals management and the supporters understand my situation.” The IPL 2025 season is set to begin on March 22, and Delhi will now have to look for a replacement. Brook played in the tournament but managed only 47 runs in three matches as England crashed out in the group stage. The 26-year-old is now prioritizing national duties over the IPL, believing this phase of his career is crucial. Brook said, “This has been the busiest period of my life as a cricketer. I need to be in the best shape, mentally and physically, for the challenges ahead.” While Brook has struggled in franchise cricket, including a disappointing IPL 2023 season with SunRisers Hyderabad, his focus remains on performing for England. It is now up to the IPL authorities to decide whether he will face any penalties for his withdrawal.
