Former England captain Michael Vaughan slammed the England Test team for panicking on the last two days of the final Test match at The Oval in the Anderson-Tendulkar Test series. According to Vaughan, The English batters played a high-risk game and had no one to hold the other end of the crease. The guests lost by the thinnest margin for India, by just 6 runs. Referring to that, Vaughan said that had India been standing on the losing side, they would have been called out for "yipping up." Even South Africa would have tagged them as "chockers." In his column for The Telegraph, Vaughan said that it was unfortunate for England that Chris Woakes got injured, and added, "...the truth is England panicked. The closer they got, within 70, they tried to be more high-risk. The approach was wrong on the final morning. It was too risky. If it takes 15 overs, so be it. You do not need to whizz 35 runs in five overs. All it needed was one steady head. Three of the last seven wickets were players dancing down the wicket to seamers…" He added, "If India lost in that fashion, we would have said they yipped up. If South Africa lost like that, we would say they choked. It was that bad a miss. The defeat will really hurt England. When you know you should win a game, it is so painful." Without him, the team looks fragile, and anyone can defeat them. "When Stokes is fit, I think they can beat anyone. When he is not, they can be beaten by everyone. When Ben has been captain and the series has been tight, they have won. At the Oval, he was not out in the middle and it showed. With the mentality he brings it is so clear and obvious when he is not out there. He cannot have the same impact when he is stood on the balcony or sat next to McCullum." Vaughan even criticized the Stokes-McCullam management. It's entertainment, but the risky cricket they play is yet to yield a series win against India and Australia. He further said Harry Brook would have been a better choice instead of Ollie Pope if Ben Stokes was not leading his side.
