England have announced their playing XI for the third and final ODI against South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The game will also be Ben Duckett's final international of the summer before he takes a break before a congested winter schedule. The sole alteration to the XI is the replacement of Saqib Mahmood by Jamie Overton. Overton, who has just confirmed he is taking a break from red-ball cricket, remains a crucial part of England's white-ball team. Duckett, who has played in all 14 of England's home internationals during the summer alongside Harry Brook and Jamie Smith, has faced problems with form. In his previous 10 innings in all formats, he has scored just once over 20, which has made people doubt his batting rhythm. Despite this, he has been entrusted with the role of opening for this important ODI. England want to keep Duckett fit for the difficult months to follow, which include the Ashes as well as the T20 World Cup. Assistant coach Marcus Trescothick emphasized workload management while giving the reasoning behind the decision. Trescothick said: “Brendon spoke to him over the last few days, trying to get a gauge of where he's at. You look at every situation individually and in its own way, looking at the volume of cricket they've played and by chatting with them to see how they're feeling… This is the best [decision] to maximise performances going forward as we head into a big winter." He added: “We need certain players to be firing, and Ben is certainly one of those… We need the boys firing going into November, December, January. That's an important time. It's not to say things aren't important coming up, but sometimes you just have to take your foot off the gas a bit and rejuvenate the mind. Then, you can get back on the horse and crack on.” England XI for third ODI against South Africa: Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid
