England have declared their playing eleven for the first Test against India at Headingley, to begin on Friday, June 20. All-rounder Chris Woakes comes back to red-ball cricket for the first time since December, while Durham seamer Brydon Carse will play his first Test on his home soil. Carse has featured in five Test matches for England, all of which came during overseas tours to Pakistan and New Zealand. Ben Stokes is set to lead a formidable side. The home side have held on to their usual openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, to carry on with their aggressive strategy under the 'Bazball' mantra. Ollie Pope will bat at No. 3, with Joe Root at No. 4. Harry Brook is at No. 5, while Jacob Bethell is overlooked for the first Test. Ben Stokes and his side are set to enter the match with a three-pronged pace attack featuring Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue, while the captain himself is expected to serve as the fourth seam option.
