The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets exceeding ₹11 crore belonging to former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan. The move comes under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with the alleged promotion of the banned online betting platform, 1XBet.4. According to the agency, mutual funds worth ₹6.64 crore held by Raina and immovable assets worth ₹4.5 crore owned by Dhawan were provisionally seized. Officials stated that both players were earlier questioned by investigators for endorsing 1XBet through its surrogate branding model. The ED clarified that the provisional attachment followed due legal procedure, citing “reasonable belief” that the assets were derived from criminal proceeds. These confiscated properties will remain under attachment until the adjudicating authority confirms the order within 180 days. The transactions were reportedly structured through layered banking systems to disguise illicit origins. ED sources revealed that both Raina and Dhawan allegedly signed agreements with offshore companies linked to the betting network. Statements from the agency further indicated that other former cricketers, including Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, were also questioned regarding promotional collaborations. Preliminary findings suggest the betting syndicate laundered over ₹1,000 crore through more than 6,000 mule accounts. The accounts were used to channel user deposits via multiple payment gateways, masking their true source. Officials confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with additional summons expected as the ED traces the flow of foreign funds associated with the betting application.
