West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo, the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, retired from all formats of cricket just ahead of his 41st birthday. Bravo's 21-year cricket career ended after he got injured during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), stopping him from finishing his final game. Bravo was playing for Trinbago Knight Riders against Saint Lucia Kings when he injured himself while fielding. This injury ended his CPL season and cricket playing career. On September 26, Bravo shared an emotional post on Instagram, thanking the game for shaping his life. "Twenty-one years as a professional cricketer - it's been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows," Bravo wrote. "As much as I'd love to continue this relationship, it's time to face reality. My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can't put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent." Even though MI Emirates kept him for the ILT20, his recent injury ended his chances of playing again. Bravo's emotional goodbye marked the close of an era for the "Champion" as he said farewell to the sport that shaped his life. "I had no interest in anything else, and I dedicated my entire life to you," Bravo wrote. "In return, you gave me the life I dreamed of for myself and my family. For that, I can't thank you enough... So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell." Bravo's cricket legacy is unmatched. He won five CPL titles, including three with Trinbago Knight Riders in 2017 and 2018. He led St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to victory in 2021. He emerged successful in many phases of his life. He became a multiple IPL, PSL, and BBL winner; one of the greatest T20 players ever. Statistics for Bravo reflect brilliance in cricket. He was the highest wicket-taker in T20 with 631 wickets. Apart from first-class matches wherein he bagged 177 wickets and 271 List-A games. During his career, he had featured in more than 900 matches. After announcing that he would be resigning from international cricket at the end of 2021, he moved to coaching as a bowling consultant of Chennai Super Kings as well as Afghanistan team for the T20 World Cup.
