Thursday will see the start of the semis phase of the Duleep Trophy 2025, with North Zone versus South Zone on the field in Bengaluru. Both teams will naturally miss some prominent Indian names, due to the commitment at the Asia Cup, but won't actually give much of an edge to either side. With that said, except for the exclusions due to the T20I tournament, there may be some, who would be compelled, and could create some trouble for South Zone. One of the biggest stars to miss the Duleep Trophy semis would be, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. He did feature in the last match against East Zone, but wasn't really impactful, as he came back with just one wicket. That being said, the North Zone side has sufficient pacers to choose from. Auqib Nabi selected a double hat-trick in the last game. Another J&K pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak may come in as well. And then there's Anshul Kamboj in the side, who was recently selected for the IND vs ENG series; not quite Test ready, but still a player to be feared, in domestic cricket. Forget batting, actually adding pressure is, R Sai Kishore, experienced spinner out because of finger injury. Pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak had also recently failed to clear the fitness test at the CoE, and might sit out as well. Ankit Sharma and Shaik Rasheed have been appointed as the standbys, but could be the worst replacements for the team. Briefly, the SZ might feel the absence of the unavailable players more than NZ.
