The West Zone has released its team for the forthcoming Duleep Trophy 2025, and in a shocking move, Ajinkya Rahane has been overlooked by the selection committee. Mumbai is captained by Rahane in domestic cricket, and he was a natural choice to be made the West Zone captain, but he hasn't been given a place, not even captaincy. It's star all-rounder Shardul Thakur who will be seen leading the team instead. Senior batman Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a double hundred in the last Ranji season has also been overlooked by the selection panel. The team also comprises the name of Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad, both of whom had been captains in the last season of the Duleep Trophy. They will, however, be playing for the team only as specialist batsmen. Interestingly, Iyer could be selected for national commitments to feature in the Asia Cup 2025 that starts in September. If the news comes true, he could possibly miss the West Zone fixtures, where they gained a direct qualification to the semi-finals due to a solid finish during the last zonal season. Starbatter Yashasvi Jaiswal could be spotted wearing the opener's hat. He has been in the news lately for improving his fitness regime, and returning fitter than ever. His younger sibling Musheer Khan, who had made a stunning 181 last season at Bengaluru, has not managed to find a spot in the regular team but will be part of the seven standby players. Other important names in the West Zone team are the all-round duo of Mumbai's Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian. Pacer Tushar Deshpande and Arzan Nagwaswala are the two major pace-bowling choices, while Saurabh Nawale has been selected as the wicketkeeper. Harvik Desai from Saurashtra will also be there to give his abilities a go.
