The Indian cricket team has already resumed their practice session in the Champions Trophy, while reports are suggesting that two relatively fresher pitches are preserved for the Champions Trophy League matches. India will play their league matches in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and will be provided two fresh 22-yard strips. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium has been quite active after the Women's T20 World Cup last year. It later hosted the ICC Men's Under-19 Asia Cup. Apart from that, the stadium hosted at least 15 matches of the popular International League T20 (ILT20), under the flagship of the Emirates Cricket Board itself. It has been reported that Dubai has 10 match strips and 2 pitches were left unused during the 13 league matches of ILT. Therefore, for the stadium committee, it won't be a big deal to provide fresh pitches for the highly followed Champions Trophy tournament. A source informed the PTI, "There are 10 match strips at the DICS. During the league stage, there was specific instructions that those two won't be used now and needed to be kept fresh for the Champions Trophy. "However, whether any of the two was used for the play-offs isn't known. The idea is to ensure that it doesn't become low and slow after over-use and matches become drag. The fresh pitches will aid the batters and bowlers in equal measure." India has included five spinners in their 15-member squad: Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy. Among them, Jadeja and Patel are likely to feature in the starting XI, while Kuldeep Yadav is expected to serve as the third spin option. Notably, due to the geopolitical tensions, the International Cricket Council has agreed to India's demand of not touring India and has shifted the three league matches to Dubai. Even if India plays the semi-final and final match, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host those. The Champions Trophy will start on and from 19th February. India will play their first match against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by clashes against Pakistan and New Zealand, respectively, on February 23 and March 2.
