Washington Sundar made his debut for GT against SRH in match 19 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Walking in to bat at 16/2 in a run-chase of 153, Washington seemed to be batting on a different surface and raced to 27 off his first 10 balls. He fell just short of his maiden IPL half-century as he mistimed an uppish cut to Shami at the start of the 14th over, the ball went hard and flat and was dipping towards an incoming Aniket Verma who dived forward and took the catch just above the turf. The umpires got together and send it upstairs to the third umpire Nitin Menon who very quickly decided that it was a fair catch, even the on-air commentators including Harsha Bhogle, Shane Watson and Matthew Hayden did not seem entirely convinced by the decision. Washington Sundar walked out with some great intent and he combined with his skipper Shubman Gill who looked in control throughout as the duo put on 90 runs for the third wicket before Sundar fell on 49. Gill did to yet another IPL half-century and he has been joined by the impact sub Sherfane Rutherford with GT needing just 41 runs in 36 balls.
