Former Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has blasted the Indian cricket team following cancellation of the India Champions vs Pakistan Champions match in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The two sides were scheduled to play on July 20 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, but the organisers cancelled the match following Indian fans' outcry. The cancellation of the game also followed that a number of Indian cricketers, among them being Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, and Yusuf Pathan, had declined to play against the Pakistan Champions side in the competition. According to Butt, if India doesn't want to play against Pakistan, they should not play them at any level or competition, including ICC events. Salman said: “The whole world is talking about them – what message have they sent to cricket as a whole and to the fans? What are you trying to show? What are you trying to prove? Now don’t play in the World Cup…don’t play against us in any ICC tournament.” Former Pakistani cricketer added: “Make this a promise. See, we understand that everything has its own place. But now that you are interlinking, don’t play against us at any level or tournament. Not even the Olympics. Please do that. I would love to see. The stakes would be high, and I’d see how much nationalism they can show at that level." The move to cancel the match follows strong public pressure in India after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Many fans have demanded a complete halt to cricket matches with Pakistan, except when teams meet in ICC or Asia Cup tournaments. India last played a bilateral series against Pakistan in 2012–13.
