The former India captain Saurav Ganguly has normalized the heated verbal altercation between Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and the Kia Oval pitch curator Lee Fortis. Speaking at a recent event, Ganguly said that visiting captains often have conversations with curators, "sometimes happy, sometimes unhappy." And he is clueless as to why Gambhir reacted in such a way. Asking to cool down, Gambhir said in the even as recorded by ANI, "I really don't know why Gambhir was upset. All coaches and captains must have had discussions with the groundsman, sometimes happily, sometimes unhappily. It happened in my time, and it will happen in the future as well. So let's not make too much out of it. Gambhir was seen throwing cuss words at Fortis, but the backdrop had an unapologetic sarcasm from the big fellow Lee Fortis, who was the pitch curator of The Oval. On the first practice day ahead of the fifth Test, Fortis was claimed to say that he will make the pitch tougher for India by growing more grass on it. Not only that, but he even restricted Gambhir and the Indian support staff from inspecting the pitch from beyond the 2.5 meters when such restrictions were not there for the England team. The final breakout happened when he insisted the Indian support staff from bringing a 10kg icebox from beyond the boundary rope.
