On the 78th anniversary of Independence Day in India, the country's former wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik shared his all-time playing XI for India across formats in a video posted by Cricbuzz on August 15. Karthik picked players he played alongside during his 20-year-long international career. His team, which was star-studded included greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Shama, Jasprit Bumrah, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Anil Kumble. There was, however no place for MS Dhoni, who over his long career with India scored upwards of 15,000 runs and captained to three major titles of ICC – the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Karthik picked five batsmen, two spin-bowling all-rounders, two spinners, and two fast bowlers in his all-time XI. He opened with Rohit and Virender Sehwag, followed by Dravid and, of course, Tendulkar. At number five, he placed Virat Kohli, followed by Yuvraj Singh and Ravindra Jadeja. He named Kumble and R. Ashwin as the two specialist spinners, with Bumrah and Zaheer Khan completing the fast-bowling line-up. #Dravid or #Gambhir❓#Kumble or #Harbhajan❓@DineshKarthik picks his all-time #India XI, on new episode of #heyCB, here ⬇️#IndependenceDay2024 pic.twitter.com/EXQaUtXter — Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) August 15, 2024 Karthik said: “I will be opening with Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma. Good opening combination across formats. At No. 3 would be Rahul Dravid. No. 4 Sachin Tendulkar. No. 5 Virat Kohli. At No. 6, it was a tough one. I was thinking who, but I should fit in two all-rounders. So very similar to the kind of players that India have been producing, Yuvraj Singh. At No. 7, Ravindra Jadeja. At No. 8, R Ashwin, at No. 9, Anil Kumble. At No. 10, Jasprit Bumrah, and No. 11 will be Zaheer Khan." He further added that: “The 12th man will be Harbhajan Singh, and there are many players I have missed out. Gautam Gambhir, what can you say about it and I feel it’s just hard to fit in everybody in this eleven. So, this is an all-time XI across formats that I thought” Dinesh Karthik’s all-time India XI across formats: Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah, Zaheer Khan. 12th man: Harbhajan Singh.
