Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has truly stolen the spotlight in the T20I series against South Africa. He picked a fifer in the second game against South Africa and became the fifth Indian bowler to reach this milestone in T20Is and is only the third from India to take a five-wicket haul on South African soil. Chakravarthy put up a stellar performance, recording figures of 5/17 in four overs. His impressive bowling display has caught widespread attention, including from Dinesh Karthik, who now advocates for Chakravarthy's selection in India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Notably, Chakravarthy has shown outstanding form since his return to international cricket in October against Bangladesh and became the joint second-highest wicket-taker in that series. He emphasized that leaving him out of the Champions Trophy team would be a significant oversight by India. Dinesh Karthik wrote: "If India don't pick VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY for the Champions Trophy, then they are making a grave error. Unfortunately, he couldn’t meet expectations during the tournament, he remained wicketless in all three T20I matches he played in the World Cup tournament then later, he was sidelined from the squad. This year, however, he returned to the team in the series against Bangladesh and has shown consistent form throughout. While Varun has yet to play an ODI and is still awaiting his debut in that format, Dinesh Karthik believes that, if given the chance, he’ll excel there as well.
