In an interesting move, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) announced Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the upcoming edition of IPL 2025. The announcement marked the end of all the rumours that were surrounding Virat Kohli to be the next captain of RCB, notably Rajat Patidar will take over the leadership duties from Faf du Plessis, who captained the side from 2022 to 2024. Rajat Patidar, who has played three seasons for the team, became the 8th captain to lead the team in this league. Since joining the RCB team in 2021, Rajat has immensely grown as a key figure for the team now. Dinesh Karthik, the current RCB’s batting coach, has fully backed the decision and opined that Rajat Patidar was the ideal option for the captaincy role. It is worth mentioning that Rajat’s captaincy in the domestic tournament made him a credible player for this role. A lot of players had great things to say about his leadership, and that played a huge role in our decision. Since this is a fresh cycle for the team, we wanted a new leader to take charge, and Rajat was the ideal choice.” The 31-year-old dynamic player showed his brilliant batting skills and his excellent leadership ability to take his team to the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where they suffered a defeat against Mumbai last year. He has played 27 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in which he has scored 799 runs including a century to his name.
