The Board of Control for Cricket in India penalized Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowler Digvesh Singh Rathi for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. He was fined 25 percent of his match fee and awarded a demerit point for his "notebook" celebration after dismissing PBKS opener Priyansh Arya, which was deemed to be spirited. The incident happened in the third over of PBKS's run chase. Digvesh bowled a short and wide delivery that Arya tried to pull but top-edged instead, only to be sharply caught by Shardul Thakur to send Arya back for 8 runs off 9 balls. On his way back to the pavilion, Digvesh mimicked writing in an imaginary notebook, a celebration similar to the trademark move of West Indies fast bowler Kesrick Williams. After the celebrations, the umpires went to speak to Digvesh on the field. He admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 and accepted the penalty-which did not amuse Sunil Gavaskar. Sunil Gavaskar commented: “I can understand the celebration if the wicket comes after the batsman hit a boundary or a six in the previous ball. As a bowler, you’ve got six deliveries. So if you got five dot balls and get a wicket of the sixth, then you do something like that, it’s not understandable. But all these gestures mean that you don’t expect to get a wicket. And now that you’ve got a wicket, you’re trying to, you know, show off.” Also Read | Bishnoi & Badoni’s Stunning Relay Catch Stuns IPL 2025 Fans Despite the controversy, Digvesh did one of the most commendable jobs for LSG, taking 2 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs. The rest of LSG's bowling attack, meanwhile, let down the side as PBKS chased the target of 173 in just 16.2 overs. Excellent innings from opener Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34 balls) and a captain's innings from Shreyas Iyer (52* off 30 balls) nudged PBKS comfortably on course to victory. This win has brought them to the second spot in the points table with both RCB and DC on four points apiece after two wins each in their first two matches.
