The former Indian captain Rohit Sharma had decided to step down from the longest format of cricket in the coolest way. A small Instagram story, something that doesn't even stay for more than 24 hours, informed the cricketing fraternity that he is no longer a part of Test cricket. However, reports suggest that the decision did not come voluntarily from Rohit's side. According to a report of Dainik Jagaran, Rohit Sharma was approached by the Indian selectors and told that he is not even in the plan for the England test series. The report further suggested that Rohit's announcement came on the very second when the selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, were holding a meeting in Mumbai discussing the future of the young Indian team. The meeting was also deciding on the possible predecessor of the team. On May 7, the news came through Rohit Sharma's Instagram handle when he posted: "Hello everyone, I would just like to share that l am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format." Following that, he struggled in the away Border-Gavaskar Trophy too. He missed the first one due to paternal leave and opted out of the final Test, due to his off-form. Not only that, India broke the BGT dominance of 10 years after suffering a 1-3 defeat. Since then, there were questions about his stay, at least as a captain, if not totally dropped from the team. After winning the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, the air seemed to have relaxed a bit, but not enough for Ro to stay back. Meanwhile, within a week, his partner Virat Kohli decided to step down too, from his favorite format, the Test cricket.
