Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif shared his views on the speculations that Virat Kohli may once again don the captain's cap of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the IPL 2025 season. Kaif opines that perhaps Kohli would have garnered some experience playing under the captaincy of India's current captain Rohit Sharma in the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to Kaif, this experience may have urged Kohli to accept the role of RCB captaincy again. Kohli had served as captain of RCB from 2013 through 2021. RCB has ended their 2016 season as the runner-up and have also qualified for the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, 2020 to 2021. Nonetheless, Kohli declared, in the mid of the IPL 2021 that he would end his service as the skipper of this team after completion of this season. This is where RCB ended up assigning Faf du Plessis as a new captain of the franchise. Although Faf was the official skipper in IPL 2023, Kohli had to lead in a few matches as Faf was injured. On Star Sports Hindi, Kaif shared his views saying: "If Virat Kohli has made up his mind to lead RCB, he will lead the team. No one had removed him in the first place, it was his decision to step down as captain. Perhaps, Virat must have thought that he has won the 2024 T20 World Cup, he has spent more time with Rohit Sharma now, he must have learned some new things as a leader, so maybe that's why Virat is thinking that." Recent reports further hint that Kohli might get the RCB captaincy again in 2025. It is to be remembered that Kohli has been one of the leading performers in India's recent victory in the T20 World Cup this year for the team led by Rohit Sharma. He had also been a part of the ODI World Cup side which Rohit captained the campaign last year.
