Recently, an statement by IPL commentator Tanay Tiwari actually went viral on social media. In the short clip, he said that Yuzvendra Chahal told him he saw the legendary Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni crying, in the bathroom after, reportedly losing a match to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The video was uploaded via a YouTube podcast, and it soon picked up huge attention, also leading to heated reactions online. MS Dhoni has one of the biggest fan followings in the whole cricket world, mostly because of his achievements as India’s captain. During his leadership India lifted the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, and the ODI World Cup. Apart from his success with India, Dhoni also helped guide Chennai Super Kings toward five IPL titles, and he also took home two Champions League T20 trophies with the franchise, it felt like a continuous momentum thing. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings ran into each other in a high pressure clash on May 18 in Bengaluru, honestly that one carried a lot of weight because the victor would lock in a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. RCB set a healthy total of 218/5 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis made 54, Virat Kohli chipped in with 47, Rajat Patidar contributed 41, and Cameron Green stayed unbeaten with 38, so basically the innings didn’t dip at all. When CSK went in, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell fell early, but Rachin Ravindra ended up putting on an impressive display, scoring 61. CSK still looked in control for most of the chase. Ajinkya Rahane put up 33, Dhoni scored 25 and Ravindra Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 42. Yet, some really excellent fielding plus brilliant death-over bowling, helped RCB keep CSK to 191/7. In the end, RCB won by 27 runs, got through to the playoffs, and knocked Chennai Super Kings clean out of the tournament. Tanay Tiwari on MS Dhoni after 18th May Chinnaswamy defeat 🗣️:"I was going for my show when I saw him (MS) and he was angry not just angry but he was seething. He was absolutely seething man. Yuzi told me that he cried in bathroom as well"(Ranveer podcast) pic.twitter.com/TQYbdnJ7Sj — RCB Xtra (@Rcb_Xtra) May 28, 2026 On the Ranveer Show podcast, Tanay Tiwari said he had seen MS Dhoni extremely angry, because CSK should have won that match. Later, a person on social media claimed Tiwari also said Yuzvendra Chahal had told him Dhoni cried in the bathroom. Soon after , a bunch of social media users started saying that the whole claim was being read in the wrong way , or like, not quite in the manner intended. They claimed that Tanay Tiwari never actually linked that crying incident to CSK’s IPL 2024 defeat vs RCB. Tanay Tiwari had reportedly said that Yuzvendra Chahal told him , that Dhoni cried while in the bathroom after getting run out during that painful semi-final. India still ended up losing that nail-biting semi-final to New Zealand , even though Dhoni managed to score a gritty half-century. His innings was cut short after Martin Guptill’s direct hit sent him back, basically dashing India’s chances of reaching the final. He officially retired from international cricket in 2020, but then he still showed up for the IPL. During his run, Dhoni helped CSK grab titles in 2018, 2021 and 2023. After the IPL 2023 triumph he handed CSK captaincy over to Ruturaj Gaikwad. What’s interesting is that IPL 2026 became the first season where Dhoni didn’t play a single game for CSK, full stop. He couldn’t recover fully from a calf injury, and then later he also had a finger injury. As of now, it’s still not completely clear whether Dhoni will return to play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2027.
