The retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket have left fans and cricket pundits surprised, with many questioning the real reasons behind their decisions. Neither player had hinted at stepping away, yet Rohit announced his retirement from red-ball cricket just before the England tour, and Kohli followed a few days later. Karsan Ghavri Raises Questions Former India all-rounder Karsan Ghavri is of the opinion that both legends were pushed out from the Test team instead of opting out. Ghavri opined that Virat Kohli could have also played for another couple of years and was dismayed that the star batsman was not even presented with a farewell by the BCCI. At Vickey Lalwani Show, when Ghavri was asked about Kohli’s sudden retirement, he said: “Well, that’s a mystery. He (Kohli) should have definitely continued playing for India easily, probably for another couple of years. But I think something really forced him to retire. And unfortunately, when he retired, he was not even given a farewell by BCCI." Ghavri continued to assert that both Kohli and Rohit were victims of team management internal politics. Ghavri said: "It’s an internal politics within BCCI which is hard to understand. And I think, possibly, these are the reasons he retired prematurely. Even Rohit Sharma retired prematurely. They were asked to go out." He concluded by saying: "It’s not that they wanted to leave. They wanted to continue. But the selectors, BCCI had different ideas. It’s a matter of some kind of petty politics." With both Test retirements eliciting such strong responses, speculation then falls on their ODI futures. It has been reported that the two could retire from the 50-over game after the Australia tour later this year.
