Dhruv Jurel, the present-day sensational batter and one of the few hopes for the Indian team, has earned praise from the former Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri. Shastri felt that Jurel deserves a chance as a specialist batter. Speaking to the ICC review, Shastri highlighted Dhruv's attitude and resilience, advocating for him as a middle-order batter. While speaking about Jurel, Shastri took the example of his debut series against England in 2024, where despite averaging in the 80s, he showed utmost calmness, that too under pressure. Shastri said, "I think he can easily play as a (specialist) batter. What impressed me most was his temperament, his calmness when the chips were down and the tightness he brought to his game - especially under pressure. Under pressure, you can see a lot of players struggling. You can see them being fidgety. You can see them being all over the shop. You can see those nerves coming through. But in this guy's case, his temperament stood out. Whenever the chips were down, even in that series against England (earlier this year) he stepped up to the plate. So I like what I saw and I'll be quite prepared to give him a go if he's in good nick" Jurel- hope for India Rohit Sharma, who is presently on paternal leave, is uncertain about his availability on the team. Shubman Gill, who scored a match-winning 91-run inning in the Gabba Test, will not play in Perth owing to a thumb fracture. Even though KL Rahul has been declared fit, his form is a big quest, as is for Virat Kohli despite having great shows in Australia. Read: Dhruv Jurel Shines with 80 Runs in Pressure-filled MCG Test The middle order that apparently looks bare has Rishabh Pant, the only standout batter from the three-match home series against New Zealand. Keeping in mind, Jurel's performance for India A in the second unofficial Test at MCG can add hope to the team. When the rest of the players failed to play the tricky pitch, this bloke scored 80 and 68 runs in the first and second innings. Giving insights from Dhruv Jurel's international Test performance, Shastri concluded, "I think seeing his form, he got 80 and 60, will do his confidence a world of good. And he's got the range of shots as well. It's not that he's just a blocker there, he can play shots. He can bat with the tail as well. See, that's why it becomes important." The first Test will be played in Perth's Optus Stadium on November 22. The match will be broadcast in India from 7:30 am IST.
