Young batting sensation of South Africa, Dewald Brevis, often referred to as 'Baby AB', has opened up about his brief but memorable stint with Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, calling it a career-defining chapter. While CSK endured a tough season, Brevis said the chance to share a dressing room with MS Dhoni was priceless. Speaking on AB de Villiers’ YouTube channel, Brevis described how Dhoni’s humility left a lasting impression on him. Brevis said: "I always tell people it was an amazing experience... The one thing I can say about MS is how humble he is as a person, that really stood out for me." Also Read | MS Dhoni’s Farewell Season? Reports Hint at IPL 2026 Comeback Dhoni's Humility Off the Field Brevis shared that MS Dhoni's presence was just as motivating off the field. He shared how Dhoni would invite teammates into his room to discuss cricket, hobbies, or even life in general. He added: "His door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. I’ve often found myself in his room, just sitting there, chatting about cricket or his hobbies. Everyone knows what he does on the field and at training, but off the field he’s just as inspiring. I really enjoyed my time there." Brevis was signed by CSK as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh and made his presence felt immediately. In a mere six games, the 21-year-old had scored 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 and average of 37.50. His aggressive batting provided a much-needed shot in the arm to CSK's middle order, although the team ended last on the standings for the first time with a paltry four wins. Brevis's IPL sensation came after his record-breaking international cricket outing earlier in the year. He hit an unbeaten 125 against Australia in a T20I, the quickest century by a South African in the format. The knock pushed him up the ICC rankings and put him in the spotlight as one of the most thrilling young batters in world cricket. For Brevis, 2025 has already been a make-or-break year. From breaking records on the world stage to learning from legends such as Dhoni and Stephen Fleming, the young man says such experiences have further kindled his desire to develop at the top level.
