Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that the team is going through a tough phase in the ongoing IPL 2025 season and stressed on turn things around. Speaking to the media ahead of CSK’s match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 14 in Lucknow, Fleming acknowledged the team's poor run and the injury troubles that have hit their campaign hard. “It’s a big challenge, there is no doubt about it. We have to look at it in small steps and just continue to work to get better in all three facets really and then you start competing. I think the disappointing aspect in particular the last game was the lack of competition we put up, and that hurt a lot," Fleming said, when asked about the difficulty of making a comeback in IPL 2025. Fleming admitted there had been some “internal soul-searching” within the team after their recent performance, but insisted the focus of the team remains on improvement. "There’s certainly been a lot of internal soul-searching but also a lot of work around what we need to do. And it’s important that we put out a performance that is representative of the proud franchise that we are. So yeah, there’s a lot of hurt that we can turn to motivation but it’s not about words, it’s about players grabbing the moment, finding form, finding their groove", he said. On MS Dhoni’s leadership, Fleming said the former India captain has stepped up but cautioned that there are no shortcuts. “MS has stepped up. His influence will always be prominent, but he hasn’t got a magic wand. It’s a case of us working very hard along with MS to turn things around," he said. Notably, CSK has a run-rate of 7.90 in this edition of IPL. “It’s[Power-hitting] not everything, I know there is a fascination with power and six-hitting, but there are also a couple of teams doing well with good craft. The beauty of the game is the balance between bat and ball. So, I love the skill and the ability to do that (hit sixes), it’s phenomenal, but for the good of the game, balance is still really important,” he said. Giving an update on Shivam Dube, Fleming said: “Yeah, we were a bit worried. I think it was a little bit of a cramp. He traveled well and looks to be moving okay, so we’re hopeful that it won’t be another injury.” Chennai Super Kings currently sit at the bottom of the table with one win from six matches. After winning their season opener against the Mumbai Indians, they have lost all five matches.
