The Bombay High Court has intervened in the divorce case of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, Dhanshree Verma. The court directed the Bandra Magistrate to expedite proceedings and deliver a verdict by March 20, considering Chahal's commitments to the Indian Premier League. With IPL 2025 set to begin on March 22, the leg-spinner is currently training with Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. The couple, who filed for divorce on February 5, sought separation by mutual consent. However, the family court had earlier refused to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, citing incomplete compliance with settlement terms. The main issue revolved around alimony payments. Chahal had agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore but had only transferred ₹2.37 crore so far. The family court also referenced an incomplete mediation report, which suggested lingering issues between the two. Under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, a six-month waiting period is typically required for divorce cases. However, this can be waived if the court is convinced that reconciliation is impossible. Justice Madhav Jamdar ruled in their favor, noting that the couple had been living separately since June 2022—well beyond the required duration. The court also observed that mediation terms had been mostly adhered to, with the remaining financial settlement due after the final decree. Rumors about their troubled relationship surfaced after the couple stopped posting together on social media. Earlier this year, speculation intensified when unverified reports suggested Dhanshree had demanded ₹60 crore as alimony. However, her family dismissed these claims as false. With the legal battle nearing its conclusion, Chahal will now shift focus to IPL 2025, where the Rajasthan Royals begin their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23.
